Reason For FC Augsburg VS FC Koln Betting Tips

Augsburg’s path towards the bottom continued with a 2-0 defeat on the road to Hertha Berlin on Sunday, a result that leaves Augsburg with a humiliating 5-17 goal difference since their win-less streak began. With just five points from their last eight (W1 D2 L5) in the Bundesliga, Augsburg’s slump couldn’t have come at a worse time – the Bavarians find themselves just one point above automatic relegation in one of the tightest battles at the bottom in years.

Cologne’s deflating 3-2 defeat at home to “Rheinderby” rivals Borussia Monchengladbach last Saturday saw them slip outside of the top six once again. The Billy Goats are, however, just one point behind 6th placed Freiburg, so their target of European football remains a very reachable and realistic goal. Coach Peter Stöger should fancy his sides chances to bounce back into the runnings against one of the weakest Augsburg sides in recent times – the Bavarians head into this match off the back of three consecutive defeats for the first time in three and a half years.

Cologne are slight favourites here at 29/20 with bet365, but we feel that goals are the safe bet here. As such, backing “both teams to score” at 19/20 is the best option for this match for the following reasons: first and foremost, “both teams to score” has landed in 64% of Augsburg’s home matches and 71% of Cologne’s matches on the road, which, based on statistics alone, makes this a profitable endeavor. Looking at both sides’ recent performances, even though Augsburg are experiencing a slump in form, the Bavarians have failed to score just once (against 3rd placed Hoffenheim) over their last eight outings at the WWK Arena. Meanwhile, Cologne have scored at least one goal in 83% of their Bundesliga matches on the road in 2017, including knocking six goals past bottom of the table Darmstadt at the end of January (a 6-1 defeat), so there isn’t much doubt surrounding their abilities either.

If there was any player to bank on to score this Saturday, it’d be Cologne’s Anthony Modeste (pictured above). His 23 goals so far this season – the best record of any Cologne striker since 1977/78 – make him the Bundesliga’s 3rd top scorer and represent a massive 58% of Cologne’s goals this season. With six goals over his last five Bundesliga outings, he’s a decent price to score anytime at 6/5 with bet365.

Regarding a correct score bet, Augsburg’s overall performances show little sign of improvement and the Bavarians hold the joint worst home record in the Bundesliga (W3 D5 L6). As such, though Cologne themselves haven’t been too impressive on the road, there’s value to be had in them to clinch the win. As such, Cologne to win 2-1 at 9/1 with bet365 is a decent shout for Saturday.
