Reason For Sport Boys VS Atletico-MG Betting Tips
Atletico Mineiro come into the tie knowing that a win would have them all but through to the last 16, with only a remarkable swing in goal difference in the last round of fixtures able to halt them should they triumph. Sport Boys will not be advancing to the last 16 of the competition, but could enter the Sudamericana if they can catch Libertad in third.
In all honesty that’s not something that looks likely in the slightest. The club remains in crisis, and their debut continental campaign is turning into something of a nightmare. Financial problems have seen players go months unpaid and they’ve responded by refusing to train regularly, failing to attend meetings before games, and some have been reported to have been considering legal action against the club. On the pitch the picture isn’t much prettier, with the side being outclassed in all Libertadores games bar the opening 3-3 draw with Libertad, whilst languishing 9th out of 12 domestically, taking just 14 points from 12 games.
Meanwhile Mineiro find themselves in the midst of an intense week. They drew the first leg of their State League final with arch rivals Cruzeiro at the weekend, and the victor of the competition will be decided in the return leg at the weekend. ‘Galo’ can’t really afford to take their eye off the ball here though, as a slip up in what should be a fairly easy game could let Libertad back into the race. Overall the side have put in some good showings so far in the competition, picking up a solid point at leaders Godoy Cruz and seeing off Libertad and opponents here Sport Boys on home turf.
Mineiro should have far too much quality and the match really shouldn’t be much of a contest. Atletico possess one of the finest attacks on the continent and it’s hard to envisage them having problems against a side they put five past just last month and that is struggling so badly on the relatively poor domestic scene. Sport Boys are not in a good place now and an Atletico in the mood to pick up the points is the last thing they need.
The hosts have now conceded 13 goals in their 4 Libertadores games and that cannot inspire confidence. Whilst they certainly have the potential to find the net, having scored 6 times in those games, but it’s very unlikely to count for anything. Atletico have the desire and ability to record an important, comfortable win, perhaps by a scoreline of 3-1. We are backing the visitors to win the game and for their be over 2.5 goals in it.
