Reason For Southampton VS Arsenal Betting Tips
Southampton made it to the final of the League Cup on Wednesday with an excellent 1-0 win at Anfield to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory. This sets them up for an unlikely cup final amidst a rather disappointing Premier League campaign, and they will now be hoping to progress in the FA Cup.
The win over Liverpool made it three wins on the bounce for them and four wins in their last five games. One of these was a 1-0 win against Norwich in their FA Cup Third Round replay, but hosting Arsenal will be a much tougher task for Southampton.
Arsenal come into this match on the back of a last gasp win at home to Burnley last weekend. They were pegged back in the 93rd minute by the plucky visitors but took all three points thanks to a 98th minute Alexis Sanchez penalty to put them 2nd in the Premier League. They are still eight points adrift of Chelsea though.
This win made it five wins and one draw in Arsenal’s last six games, but away from home they have only won two of their last five in all competitions. This includes defeats to both Everton and Manchester City in the Premier League and another very late win away to Preston North End in the FA Cup.
There’s no denying that Arsenal have been cutting it fine with some of their victories recently. This is especially true against defensively organised sides, as was shown by Burnley at the weekend. Southampton have lost Jose Fonte this transfer window and Virgil van Dijk is a doubt, but they managed to keep a clean sheet at Anfield in midweek and have only conceded one goal in their last five outings.
At home they have kept three clean sheets on the bounce, and whilst another may be a little more difficult, they are undoubtedly back to their defensive best. This should give them a good chance of getting something from this game.
Arsenal have only won two of their last five on the road and Southampton have only lost three of their 19 home games in all competitions this season. This makes odds of 3/4 for a Southampton Win or Draw Double Chance look very good value, so I’m backing that alongside a 1-1 correct score predictions at 11/2.
